Huntersville Dentist Educates Patients on the Warning Signs of Oral Cancer

Dr. Tate Langdon promotes Oral Cancer Awareness Month in Huntersville and the surrounding areas.

Huntersville dentist, Dr. Tate Langdon, and his team are helping to protect their patients from the devastating effects of oral cancer by helping to educate patients about the warning signs and symptoms of treatment methods available. The dental office of Dr. Tate Langdon offers thorough oral cancer screenings with each oral examination.

“Oral cancer is real problem in our country. If we all work together to raise awareness, we can increase the survival rate with prevention and early detection,” said Dr. Langdon.

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month. We see this as a good time to share vital information with our patients, friends and community as a whole.

Performing certain responsibilities daily can help to prevent oral cancer.  Here are some of the most efficient ways to lessen the risk of oral cancer:

  • Brushing and flossing on a daily basis
  • Do not smoke or chew tobacco
  • Try to limit your exposure to the sun
  • Eat a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables
  • Prepare foods in a more healthy manner
  • Visit our office at least twice per year for oral healthcare and thorough oral examinations

Taking these steps and being proactive will help you to stay healthy and will contribute to the likelihood of avoiding or surviving oral cancer. According to the CDC, more than 30,000 new cases of cancer of the oral cavity and pharynx are diagnosed and over 8,000 deaths due to oral cancer occur each year. The 5-year survival rate for these cancers is only about 50 percent.

The good news is that with early detection, pre-cancerous cells are often located and removed in an efficient manner.  Dr. Langdon can detect irregularities such as changes in tissue within the mouth during your dental examination. Other symptoms include; a lump of mass in the inside of the mouth or neck, pain or difficulty swallowing, speaking or chewing, or any wart like masses.

If Huntersville dentist, Dr. Langdon detects an abnormality in the cells in your mouth, he may refer you to a specialist to receive a biopsy.  Many times oral lesions and irregularities are benign, however it’s best to have certainty.

Dr. Langdon wants only the best for his patients and that is why he is working to bring attention to Oral Cancer Awareness Month. During Oral Cancer Awareness Month he is encouraging his patients to receive a complete oral examination.  Please contact Dr. Langdon at his Huntersville dental office for more information or to schedule an oral cancer screening.
